As part of the National Action Plan to Prevent Overdiagnosis and Overtreatment in Australia, and underpinned by point 3 of its initial statement, we are in the process of creating simple, lay language information sheets that:

1. Explain the problem generally;
2. Explain the problem as it relates to specific conditions;
3. Offer suggestions for how we can try to prevent the problem from occurring; and
4. Offer suggestions for questions you can ask your health professional in the consulting room.

These information sheets are informed by the latest research, but should be treated as general in nature. It is not medical advice – you should always speak with your health professional before making personal medical decisions.
