The slow de-implementation of non-evidence-based treatments in low back pain hospital care-Trends in treatments using Dutch hospital register data from 1991 to 2018 – Pieter Coenen et al

In the Netherlands, de-implementation of five non-recommended hospital LBP treatments, if at all, took several decades. Although de-implementation was substantial, slow de-implementation has likely resulted in considerable waste of resources and avoidable harm to many patients in Dutch hospitals.

The Association Between Preoperative Patient-Reported Health Status and Postoperative Survey Completion Following Arthroplasty: Registry-Based Cohort Study – Ian Harris et al

2022-09-07T16:29:16+10:00Knee, PROMS, Publications|

Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are commonly used to report outcomes after hip and knee arthroplasty, but response rates are rarely complete. Given that preoperative health status (as measured by PROMs) is a strong predictor of outcomes (using the same measures) and that these outcomes may [...]

Poor Knee-specific and Generic Patient-reported Outcome Measure Scores at 6 Months Are Associated With Early Revision Knee Arthroplasty: A Study From the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry – Ilana Ackerman et al

2023-01-11T15:35:12+11:00Knee, Musculoskeletal, Publications, Surgery|

Knee-specific and generic PROM scores offer an efficient approach to identifying patients at greater risk of early revision surgery, using either the 6-month score or the magnitude of improvement.

Physiotherapists have some hesitations and unmet needs regarding delivery of exercise programs for low back pain prevention in adults: A qualitative interview study – Julie Ayre et al

2023-01-11T16:18:33+11:00Back pain, Low back pain, Publications|

Many of the physiotherapists had some hesitations and unmet needs regarding delivery of exercise programs for secondary prevention of low back pain. Clinicians may find it useful to ask patients directly about their interest in prevention programs and work with interested patients to develop tailored, [...]

Less improvement in knee function and higher rates of dissatisfaction in the short-term following total knee arthroplasty in people with mild radiographic arthritis – Yasser Khatib et al

2022-09-07T15:22:27+10:00Knee, Publications, Surgery|

The purpose of this study was to assess if severity of radiographic changes of knee arthritis was associated with patient improvement after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). We hypothesised that patients with mild arthritis were more likely to report lower satisfaction, improvement in knee function and [...]

Effect of Physical Therapy vs Arthroscopic Partial Meniscectomy in People With Degenerative Meniscal Tears: Five-Year Follow-up of the ESCAPE Randomized Clinical Trial – Julia Noorduyn et al

2022-09-07T14:59:23+10:00Knee, Publications|

There is a paucity of high-quality evidence about the long-term effects (ie. 3-5 years and beyond) of arthroscopic partial meniscectomy vs exercise-based physical therapy for patients with degenerative meniscal tears. The findings of this trial support the recommendation that exercise-based physical therapy should be the [...]

Barriers, enablers and acceptability of home-based care following elective total knee or hip replacement at a private hospital: A qualitative study of patient and caregiver perspectives – Jason Wallis et al

2022-09-07T14:49:34+10:00Hip, Knee, Publications|

To facilitate implementation of home-based care following an elective total knee or hip replacement in a private hospital, we explored patient and caregiver barriers and enablers and components of care that may increase its acceptability.
